Drishyam 2 Movie Story

Drishyam 2 which is released on 18 November 2022 is a movie with a promise like its prequel. This isn’t a film we recommend to those who haven’t watched the first part. It is in continuation in its truest sense, with the first part. . And it’s made evident with screenshots from the 2015 film Drishyam showing on screen with the opening credits.

We are soon taken inside Vijay Salgaonkar’s somewhat normal new life with his family amid all the haunting rumors from the past surrounding them. Well, that’s reality. People don’t forget the drama and that is what is depicted in the film.

Vijay and the Salgaonkar family, consisting of his wife Nandini (played by Shriya Saran), and two daughters, Anju and Anu (Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav), are trying to swim through their past and are attempting to start a new life. However, the past still haunts them. Nandini hasn’t slept in 7 years peacefully whereas Anju is facing stress and anxiety and is now suffering from epilepsy.

Vijay is now the owner of a multiplex as well, apart from being a cable operator. His eyes speak volumes and it’s a fact. Like a common man, he also represents the fear and calmness of a common man. Even when his family was tortured and beaten up, he just keeps pleading.

The new entry in the story is Akshay Khanna who is now in charge and IG of the Police and a friend to Tabu. He is good in his role but couldn’t create the terror on screen that Tabu has as an IG Police. Tabu played the role impressively. The pain of being a mother who doesn’t know what has happened to her son is shown clearly in her place. She is in the police and hence has harshness in her approach towards Vijay’s family.

A special mention of Gaitonde (played by Kamlesh Sawant). You’ll hate him in this part too, and there’s more edge to his character than in the first one. For instance, we love one of his dialogues where he says “Biwi ka birthday bhool sakta hoon, October 2 aur October 3 nahin.”

There are multiple references to Drishyam in its sequel. For instance, the incidents that happened on October 2 and October 3 in the first part have become national memes. And the makers have utilized it in the same aspect. Every time Tabu or anyone else on screen utters these two dates and how they had pao bhaji and attended a Satsang together, the audience would clap and break into bouts of laughter.

Drishyam 2 is the Hindi adaption of Mohanlal’s film of the same name. Ajay Devgn is magic on-screen. The man doesn’t need hard-hitting dialogues to garner claps and hoots. Expressions and walk hi kaafi hai! The same applies in Drishyam 2 as well.

Drishyam 2 Movie Review

Drishayam 2, The sequel to Drishyam, adapted from a Malayalam thriller of the same name, propagates “humko drishyo pe dhayan dena chahiye, sabdo pe nahi. Kyuki sabdo mein jhooth asaani se chup jata hai.”  The movie Drishyam 2 begins where the 2015 film had left off. Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn) is shown emerging from a police station carrying a shovel.

Seven years ago, the almost-perfect crime had a witness, and that’s what gives the police a reason to revisit the Sameer Deshmukh missing-case investigation so many years later.

Drishayam 2 directed by Abishek Pathak followed a similar pattern to the first, which was helmed by the late Nishkant Kamat. The first half of the movie is slow and a build-up and after intermission, the film just takes off. Thankfully, the movie doesn’t surrender logic in an attempt to hold emotions.

The family’s dread and anxiety are palpable as the director gradually builds the tension in the narrative like an artist. As the investigation progresses, every character serves a distinct purpose and helps in heightened the drama and suspense.

Ajay Devgn shines as a protective father. He portrayed the role of a simple cable operator who owned multiplex now and has a razor–sharped mind. Akshaye Khanna, who in the past has played a cop, in films like Mom and Ittefaq, lends much gravitas to these gripping proceedings. Tabu is simply outstanding as Meera, a mother seeking justice for her son.

Rajat Kapoor shines as her husband who eagerly wants everything to be settled soon. Kamlesh Sawant reprises his role as Gaitonde, who is still ruthless and bloodthirsty for revenge. Shriya Saran, Ishita Dutta, and Mrunal Jadhav, who play other Salgaonkars, have almost similar roles as they had in the previous part. Saurabh Shukla as writer Murad Ali plays his part well to resolve the mystery.

Music gels well with the story and mood of the movie. Drishyam 2 dishes out plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked throughout, just like its predecessor.
