Jugjugg Jeeyo Movie Story
The movie opens with a song “Nain Ta Heere”, that shows the entire journey of the relationship between Kukoo (Varun Dhawan) and Nainaa (Kiara Advani). Since their school days , they were like childhood sweethearts and thereafter end up marrying each other. It is from here the story begins. The couple has now relocated to Toronto, Canada, and nothing is going right for them. Kukoo is working as a bouncer in a Night Club whereas Naina is doing a white collar job in a reputable company,
There was no harmony between the couple and the work timings for both were quite different and they hardly get to see each other. Their marriage was falling apart due to prolonged silences, unfinished conversations, and resentful hearts. On their wedding anniversary, they decided to file for divorce. But, they have to travel to India to Patiala to attend the wedding of Kukoo’s sister Ginny (Prajakta Koli). They decided to pretend to appear as a happy couple to the public until Ginny is married..
In the movie Jug Jug Jiyo ,there has been 2 couples : one who has been childhood lovers but their marriage was ending up in divorce in 5 years just because they hardly communicate. And there is another couple who has been married for years together but their foundation is just arrangements. On the surface, it seemed as all is going well for the senior couple. But in real, the father is still looking for love whereas the daughter is about to get married.
The wife takes care of him but he is not able to be romantic with her. Hence there is another woman Tisca Arora, the maths teacher in Anil Kapoor’s life. Gradually, when the senior couple decided to part ways and the other lady refuses to stays with such a dependent person ( Anil Kapoor ) then Anil tried to play smart and said that he was unable to break his marriage. Finally, the story unfolds and after much drama , the senior couple decided to live separately whereas the young couple wished to give their relationship , another chance.
There is another angle to the story : the story of Ginny who has agreed to marry an unknown just for the prestige of the family while she loves a young man who is struggling to find his existence in the world of music. All the 3 stories were presented in a funny manner. The movie presents nothing new but it touches and presented the way Indian society behaves and function in this new age. The film ‘Jug Jug Jiyo’ is in a way a modern version of Dharma Productions’ film ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ released 21 years ago for the new millennials.

Jugjugg Jeeyo Movie Review
The movie Jugjug Jeeyo directed by Raj Mehta is a long tale of confusion. It seems as if the director is torn between making it a comedy or a serious look at marriages & the hypocrisy which is built around marriages in India. The director is utterly indecisive. On the one hand, he is full of funny bones and on the other, he is over the top. The 2 couple’s marriages are on the verge of ending but still, they are waiting for their daughter’s marriage to get over so that they can declare their ideas of getting separated to the families.
This spread of seeming relationships in the midst of Punjabi humor is what you have to endure for 150 minutes. The Anil Kapoor-Varun Dhavan energy is “Punjabi” but beyond a point, it is over the top. The script swiftly moves from group dances at Punjabi marriages and one-liners (some really hilarious) to serious introspection on the institution of marriage. The movie tried hard to soften the blow of its explicit feminism by balancing out every criticism of a husband’s infidelity and selfishness in a marriage with quick shifts to a tone humourising the same conduct.
Not only this, the hypocrisy around having a baby is also shown. How, in India, in the name of religion, females stop to live their lives. We are more than 130 crores but still we believe in Ashirwad to have a baby. Planning a baby is out of our belief system.
It remains rare for a mainstream Hindi film to examine the social conditioning that breeds men in such a way that they struggle to celebrate a wife’s successes unless their own careers outshine hers.
The movie Jugjug Jeeyo called for this in a subtle and humorous way which is sometimes irritating. Even within the Bheem-Geeta equation, whenever Bheem is called out for his infidel nature and condemns the behavior, the writers assured us that the guy is not cheating, he is just being getting his emotional needs. He is not infidel as he has not slept with the other woman.
But when the other woman denied to play a mother /carer to him, he conveniently came back to his wife to get the paranthas. How foolish !
Despite the to and froy storytelling, some part of the movie is actually appreciable. The performances save the day.Varun Dhawan and Kiara Advani are good together.
The movie gives her the role that she deserves and should get more of, Anil Kapoor is incredibly charming and energetic. Maniesh Paul as Naina’s brother displays solid comic timing in places, and the writers do well with the portrayal of supportiveness between Naina, Geeta and Kukoo’s sister (Prajakta Koli) defying saas-bahu stereotypes. Neetu Kapoor as Geeta was lost in the first half but in the second half of the movie, she gets her space.
The scene where the saas-bahu sat on a bench besides the river and had a heart to heart talk was the best. Neetu Kapoor sometimes was seen struggling with the dialogues and acting.
Jugjug Jeeyo is another movie like No Entry and the Masti series that pass male’s infidelity as humour, that too in this age of modernity. For More Stay Tuned With Us
