Madam Chief Minister Movie Story
Madam Chief Minister helmed by Subhash Kapoor is all set to entertain the audience with a robust performance done by Richa Chadha. Subhash Kapoor who has previously directed the Jolly LLB franchise, is presenting a new political drama. Kapoor has started his career as a political Journalist in Delhi in 1990s, so he has used his experience in the movie meticulously.
The trailer of the movie opens with a disclaimer that the film is not based on reality but we can very well see the resemblances with the story of former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Mayawati. As seen in the trailer, Richa plays a young politician who is ambitious and climbs the political ladder, defying the male dominated set-up. Richa shines with her sharp act and she effortlessly transform into the skin of a shrewd politician.
Talking about her role, Richa Chadha said in a statement, “This is such an incredible story of an unlikely leader who defies all norms, all societal expectations to become a chief minister like no other. I’m extremely grateful I got entrusted with such a layered character. As actors, such amazing scripts are hard to come by. I have learnt a lot about Indian society and politics via this film. I sincerely hope the audience enjoys it as much as we have.”
In a chilling opening scene, writer-director Subhash Kapoor shows us how a Dalit groom’s procession, ends up in a bloody shootout, just because it inconveniences a Thakur family. In the commotion that ensues, a poor Dalit man Roop Ram is killed, minutes before his wife delivers yet another girl child. This is Uttar Pradesh of 1982, where gender and caste discrimination are rampant and infanticide is a common practice.
Cut to 2005 and the girl child Tara (Richa Chadha) has grown up to become a fiery and hot-headed young lady, whose whirlwind affair with an upcoming politician, almost costs her, her life. Just then, a respected grass-root level Dalit leader Masterji (Saurabh Shukla) takes her under his wing and thus begins her journey into the murky world of politics and power.

Madam Chief Minister Movie Review
Kapoor keeps his dialogues extremely pedestrian, only at times, throwing in lines like, ‘UP mein jo metro banata hai woh haarta hai aur jo mandir banaata hai wohi jeetata hai.’ Thankfully, there are no unnecessary item numbers or songs to slow down the pace. The film’s non-glossy and unglamorous canvas, blends well with its earthy tonality.
Madam Chief Minister gets our vote for being an entertaining political drama, set in the crime-infested corridors of power.
